first update needed to a BETA Kid

I was getting ready to do a FW update, the first one.... and I looked at the 2014 instruction file I got from Ryan.  It says to load FW 1709..
Knowing that that first FW update on  a KID is fussy, I think I should do V.1709 rather than the 1811 or higher

Does anyone have  the address for that file?

Hi Wb,

The first Update on my Beta KID was NOT fussy.   Just needed to get the Beta Bootloader from Ryan.

Have done only one KID UD,  and it is running V. 1749,  IIRC.

The UD process is just Drag and Drop the new FW file,  as you may know.

I could try sending you this Bootloader file,  but perhaps Mario or HC should comment on the proper procedure,  for later FW Rev Updates ...

Thanks  Vic..  I was puzzled  a bit by the bootloader file as it was named a WIRESHARK Capture type.  Does your copy say that?

I have used Wireshark on this laptop so the program opened up and gave me a message ''the file isn't a 'capture file' in a format Wireshark understands'' .... which confused me, a lot.

It says it Opens with, Windows Shell Common.

Interestingly I seemed to have a virus just after dinner that locked up my laptop... no power shedding here, batteries strong!

I have loaded several beta and "current" gold versions.  All have been loaded and ran well.  There were several bugs found and Mario was able to correct the ones I found. 

You do need the bootloader updater if you have a beta that came without it.   Mine came from Mario on Feb 13 2104.  It is 29K.

Hi Vic, this morning I was all set up to attempt, fingers crossed, the FW update.

Did a last minute check and AARRGGG  found that  the version that Ryan had sent me early this morning, and the one you sent me and saved,  had the same contents as the file I already had.  It's something to do with the .OUT file type.  ?

I am trying  a few things but no luck so far...

I just deleted Wire Shark and looked at the new Ryan version and it did NOT open as a WS file this time!!  OFF to the basement.. back in a bit.

- Save the "bootloader_updater_512.out" to your pc where it is easy to find CHECK

- download the Kid firmware file "MNKID_firmware1742.fup" and save it to your pc where it is easy to find  CHECK


- turn on the battery power to the kid  CHECK

- Connect your kid via USB to your pc   CHECK
- Press Main Menu and scroll to the right to menu TECH CHECK

- Press down and select Firmware Update and press Enter

Pressing Down arrow does nothing, FW Update option does not exist..] ?

all that there is under TECH is 2 options about calibration and Factory Reset when you press ENTER......

Hi Wb,

Thanks for the update of your situation.

On the Beta KID here,  there are three (at least)  items in the Tech Menu.  Pressing the Down arrow gets one to the Firmware Update item.

Does your Down arrow work at all.  If the KID has not been in much/any use for some time,  perhaps the buttons might need to be massaged a bit  --  exercised,  or something.

Knowing nothing about the file types used here,  but seems to me that the file type does not matter at all,  as long as the BootLoader can run the Firmware Update file correctly,  that should be good enough ...

Hi Vic,  well I thought about your idea of sticking 'soft keys' and went down again and tried the down key in every area, not much happened till I got to Abs. V and just when I was expecting nada, the key adjusted the Abs. V on every pres....  so I am suspecting there is something amiss in the connection.... Did you get a New Device connection 'ding dong' from your laptop when you plugged in the USB cord?
