Email or SMS notification on Float

As the title suggests, I'm interested in accomplishing one and only one thing: to receive an email or SMS notification when my Classics (they're in follow-me) transition to Float.
That's it.

My question: what would be the absolutely simplest, most straightforward way to accomplish this?
I do have a RasPi.

Think I just answered my own question.
Simplest way will be to have the RasPi monitor an AUX port that toggles high or low on Float, then have the RasPi send email or SMS. No MODBUS configuration etc.  Just monitor an AUX port.  Simple!

Please do weigh in with other ideas though.

Graham and Matts MQTT project for the pi  , then you can have Node Red on the pi do whatever you want with the data - and there are lots of notification options.
That would be another way to do it.
