Any issues with updating from very old firmware version

I have a classic 200 that has firmware version 1843 on it.  I am bringing a second 200 on line and want to use the "Follow me" mode.  I understand that the version of the 2 controllers needs to be the same.  The newer one has the latest version 2193 on it.  Beside the normal precautions of noting current settings, customization, and performing a factory reset is there an issue with updating the firmware from 1843 to 2193?

No need for the firmware's to match, If the current one has Follow Me in the tweaks menu than you are all set. I am a firm believer in not updating firmware just because. If the controller does what you need and performs as you want don't mess with it, is my theory. The only warning I will give you is label the front covers so you do not mix them up as the MNGP2 is firmware dependent to the Classic so if you swap them by accident, you may get GOT COMM on both

There are probably many reasons one would won't to use Follow Me.  In my case I have noticed that no matter how much I strive to tweak the absorb time, it's impossible to sync them.  So, Follow me should solve that. 

Am I correct in that in my case with 2 classics, if which ever one goes to float first the other will follow?

Also, can you explain why a classic will go to float before the time for absorb has been reached?  Does the classic monitor amount of charge removed and then back in?  Or something like that?  I believe I read about it a few years ago, but now with 2 not using Follow Me, it would explain why stiving to sync the time on 2 independent classics doesn't work.

No , the Classics don't charge based on how much power they take and put back in.
The two Classics might work differently than each other depending on how they are sensing the voltage . You need to check the battery voltage with a meter when it is at the top charge, and then see what the Classic is reading. There is a voltage offset setting you can tweak to make the Classic read the same as the battery -you are offsetting any voltage drop in wiring.
If you are using lithium batteries there could be some other reasons for premature Float.

Yes, the first Classic into Float will take the other(s) with it.  That is how it is supposed to work.

If a Classic goes to Float before Absorb time is up, then maybe the Ending-Amps are set to do that.

It is important though, if using flooded lead acid batteries, that you have at least one Classic go through the full Absorb time say, once a week or so to avoid sulfating the plates.

Exactly, If the older classic has follow me in the tweaks menu I would leave it alone.

You are correct on the coordination, Whatever classic goes to Float, Bulk, EQ first will tell the others to go

As for terminating an absorb charge early that can be caused by the End Amps being met
