Just learning here.

I have seen it said that the classic's USB port is not HOST capable.

My computer has USB ports that will recognize a multitude of peripherals.

Could the classic's USB port be reprogrammed to recognize only two peripherals? (Firmware update and maybe an external ADC)

Is that a hardware or a software limitation?

The only dumb question is the one that is not asked.

Sure, I guess it could.

It would be software, I think, but not 100% on that.

You do know that the USB port on the Classic sends out some data, depending on what you choose in the MNGP COMM menu in MISC.

I thought the USB port was dedicated to firmware update only. Is not MNGP a RJ45 connection?
Is "USB on the go" a possible solution to utilize the USB port for more than one thing?

Just asking. I do appreciate your patience with me>

The Classic's USB is only a CDC serial peripheral.  Just does ASCII.  It's not an OTG peripheral or host.

The MNGP uses RS-232 like the other 3 comm jacks for master/slave

The USB is good for firmware update plus a very limited usage for spitting out some numbers

It's not good for anything other than that.  Only thing you could hook up to it is a terminal to a virtual PC comm port. While it is running, you can sort of pick 1 of a few different things by way of the MNGP MISC menu and then COMM I believe it is.  I haven't played with that in years.

Happy Thanks Giving
